2009 Jack Mortland Results
Under the watchful eye of Jack Mortland himself today’s 22nd Annual
Jack Mortland Race Walks was about the young walkers. Unlike most races
in this country were the majority of race participants are over 50 years
of age some of today’s winners were still in diapers when the 1st race
honoring Ohio’s 1964 Olympian was held.
Hitting the Road – Race Walk Style
The first of six road races kicked off on Saturday, April 18th. Contested was the USATF Indiana Association 5K Championship. The weather was ideal at the Major Taylor Velodrome complex in Indianapolis. The temperature at the start was in the mid 50’s and almost no breeze. The Velodrome is the USATF Indiana Association and Indiana Racewalkers’ Club home for road races and is a terrific, flat and fast course. We were blessed with five Competitors taking the gun. It was Theresa Amerman-Mitchell and Damon Clements winning the respective female and male races. Competing were, Janet Higbie, Barb Amerman, Theresa Amerman-Mitchell, Max Walker, and Damon Clements. Judging duties were handled by, Cheryl Sunman (chief), Tish Roberts, Mike Bird, Ian Seacof, Tim Pruesser, and David Harriman. Dave Moebs mastered the recording duties while Pat Walker wore three hats by handling registration, lap scoring, and timing. Cathy Mayfield, nursing a sore knee, volunteered with lap scoring, and Mike Wickiser peddled around picking up red cards.
